Description

Thorus XT - Extended Chorus Designer

  • A new take on UVI’s best-selling chorus plugin
  • Two worlds in one: pristine digital, and analog circuit-modeled BBD
  • Interactively shape analog-modeled aliasing, stability, and companding

One Plugin, Two Worlds of Chorus

A deep, flexible, state-of-the-art digital chorus, Thorus has long been one of UVI's

best-selling effects. Thorus XT offers a brand new take, driven by advanced DSP and joined by a second engine that faithfully models the analog bucket-brigade circuits that chorus was born on. Two worlds, one plugin, from brilliant shimmer to grainy vintage modulation, and everywhere in-between.

Your Sound, Your Way

Both digital and analog engines run on the same morphable 8-voice architecture and the same set of controls. Set your modulation once, switch engines, and hear the identical movement through two very different paths, keep whichever one best suits the material.

IN-DEPTH

Two Engines, Unified Control

Cutting-edge DSP drives a variable chorus architecture with continuous and morphable voice control; sweeping voices results in the last voice fading in and out smoothly, with no stepping. Speed and Depth shape the modulation, Shape sets its waveform as sine or triangle, Edge dials feedback and color, and Stereo Mode places the image. Fewer voices give pronounced, identifiable modulation; more voices blur the line into a thick, immersive wash

Digital - Clean, Precise, Transparent

The digital engine is the Thorus chorus you know and love, refined. Clean, precise, prized for its clarity, now with a continuously variable voice count. Every voice reads a single shared delay line at interpolated positions, for a crystalline, detailed sound. When clean isn't the objective, Quality becomes a band-limited sample-rate reducer delivering a downsampled, lo-fi edge that stays musical where it counts.

Analog - Warm, Colored, Alive

The analog engine is a faithful bucket-brigade chip emulation, found in classic hardware units like the Dimension D, and Juno-6. Where the digital engine is clean by design, Thorus XT’s analog engine gives you the natural imperfections of hardware: aliasing, resonance, pumping compression, hiss, per-voice variation—all fully shapable through an extended control set.

The Circuit, Exposed

Where the original analog hardware gave you a knob or two, Thorus XT opens the analog circuit itself. In Analog mode, the parameters normally sealed inside the hardware sit right on the display:

  • Aliasing: the hardware filters around the BBD chip that shape its aliasing
    • Rejectionsets the anti-alias and reconstruction filter cutoff
    • Emphasis adds resonance at the filter edge
  • Stability: the imperfections that bring the circuit to life
    • Noise adds modeled analog hiss
    • Variance spreads each voice's timing and adds tolerance to its component values
  • Compander: compressor and expander, a defining part of the analog sound originally built for noise reduction
    • Reactivitysets how fast it responds (1–50 ms), fast, and the waveform bleeds through as amplitude-modulation distortion; slower, and you hear its attack and release shaping the amplitude
    • Ratio sets how hard it works
  • Quality: in Analog mode, sets the base clock rate each voice sweeps around: lower it for darker, grittier, foldback-thick tone; raise it toward clean. The character isn't a preset, it's the circuit, in your hands.

Full-Spectrum Chorus

Chorus is one of the oldest effects there is, and rarely the one anyone calls innovative.

Thorus XT takes it two directions at once; the modern, transparent digital chorus, and the warm, imperfect analog circuit it never quite was, each with the depth of control to make it yours. One plugin, two worlds, and every shade between them.
