X-EQ 2 is a highly configurable 24-band EQ plug-in, featuring unique anti-cramping algorithms for an unparalleled open and transparent sound. Each band is switchable between bell, shelf, low pass or high pass filter types, with both classic and customisable shapes available for each band. It features brand new spatial processing options, band soloing, and the classic X-EQ 'Parallel' mode for recreating the characteristic sound of old parallel passive EQ circuits.

My new standard for surgical EQ.

The X-EQ 2 has completely replaced my other digital EQs. It is incredibly clean, fast to work with, and sounds totally transparent even when doing heavy surgical cuts on a master bus. It is easily my favorite EQ for precision work.

    Clean and musical

The only parametric EQ that I know with such a net distinction between frequencies. I don't know what it does, what the difference is to other EQs, but as you sweep through the spectrum what every frequency does just jumps at you. The only other EQ that I've heard do the same thing is an SSL console EQ. I was wondering if that was some mental bias I had associated to the name, but this is nothing I was expecting. And it gives you so much confidence.

Another weird thing that happens it that it tends to lend the same mid focus the console EQ has. Again, I've noted that repeatedly, without expecting it. It doesn't happen on 0 gain, but as you push the bells up you hear it.

Functionality wise it's not as complete as the fabulous - for instance I'd like to see curve slope adjustments, especially for the HP & LP, since adjusting the Q makes them resonant. I'd also like to see a lasso selection for the nodes. I get that for dynamic EQ-ing SSL has a different plugin - maybe they'll join the two together in the future.

All in all, a very clean and yet musical EQ, that, because of its clarity makes EQ-ing decisions a lot easier - and work a lot faster.

I love the various curves. Personally proportional is my favorite.

Just getting to know the EQ but GUI is a bit odd

Many EQ plug in GUI’s are easily grasped and totally make sense. This one is a bit odd in that the numeric value is on the left margin while moving “the dial” anywhere in the center graph. This does encourage using your ears, I suppose, but, is going to take a bit of getting used to. I wish the dials were different graphically. For the size of the GUI everything feels small/dark.

Sound is great. Even seemingly small cuts are immediately apparent.
