Description

smart:comp 3 is the next generation of sonible's content-aware compressor, combining intelligent analysis with a completely new, perceptual approach to dynamic control. At the core is the Compression Matrix, a 2D space that visualizes the feasible dynamic behavior of a signal - letting users seamlessly navigate between characteristics such as snappy, punchy, dynamic and dense. Each position represents a learned compressor configuration tailored to the source material.

With Group Mode, multiple smart:comp 3 instances can communicate and be controlled from a single window, simplifying consistent dynamics across drums, vocals or stems. Spectral Compression, updated Style engines and Input Riding add further refinement for transparent or creatively shaped compression. smart:comp 3 also offers both zero-latency and linear-phase modes, making it suitable for mixing, live tracking, and production workflows.

New key features in smart:comp 3

· Compression Matrix: Displays a range of compressor settings and allows smooth transitions between different compression characters.
· Compression Scope: Visualizes the viable compression range of the analyzed signal.
· Group Mode: Links multiple plug-in instances for shared control of threshold, ratio, attack, release, and mix. Enables batch adjustments from a single interface.
· Zero-latency Mode: Minimum-phase processing for live use and recording with no delay. Linear-phase mode remains available for mixing and post-production.
· Refined Input Riding: Stabilizes level variations prior to compression.
· Enhanced Style Control: Updated compression engines with defined attack and release behavior and refined saturation characteristics.

    Worth The Upgrade

A very useful, very intuitive tool to overcome the complexity of using the right compression for your tracks. Auto features are great starting points as well as the clean spectral linear phase modes. Easy for begginers, and just right for pros.

    Early days, but good signs

I only purchased this a short while ago, however I enjoyed the new, user-friendly interface to preview the range of different compression parameters suggested when mixing a dialogue piece. Hearing how the compression could sculpt the sound was educational and beneficial to make decisions. I have typically worked with presets on other 'coloured' tube compressor software, but having a simple way to explore parameters visually, rather than use preset name variations as a guide, was very nice, saved time and encouraged me to experiment more with all of my compressors.
