Two wavetable oscillators form the heart of Massive XL, with ten oscillator modes that change how the tables behave. Explore hundreds of wavetables drawn from sources including the original Massive, vintage PPG, acoustic material, and analog-derived sounds, or bring in your own. The detailed single-oscillator view makes wavetable behavior easier to see, while the original two-oscillator layout keeps both sound sources in view for hands-on patch building.

Build the signal path your sound needs.

Massive XL expands on the open routing architecture of Massive X, freeing you from a fixed signal chain. Connect oscillators, noise, filters, inserts, phase modulation, and feedback in unexpected combinations. Explore subtractive and phase modulation synthesis, physical modeling, or more experimental designs, then finish the patch with effects including Raum, Replika Shimmer, and Tape Wobble. Its flexible inserts can act as processors or become part of the sound-generating structure itself.

Mutator offers guided preset mutations, while Randomizer opens up fresh possibilities through module randomization. Keep the elements you love and change the parts you want to explore. When a bass has the right weight but needs a different edge, these tools help you discover variations without abandoning the character that made the patch work in the first place.

Go from an audio idea to a playable preset.

Preset Generator turns an audio file into a real Massive XL patch with editable synthesis parameters, giving you a musical starting point instead of a blank canvas. Drag in a reference sound and explore the resulting preset with the full engine available for further shaping. Stem separation is included, helping you find a starting sound without needing to build every synthesis component from scratch.

Make movement part of the performance.

Morpher and Animator turn expressive motion into something you can perform and carry across presets. Draw complex rhythmic patterns with Performers, shape how individual notes respond with Trackers, and build evolving patches with envelopes, LFOs, sidechain modulation, and macros. Save your favorite Performer curves for later, and use polyphonic aftertouch on compatible hardware to add expressive control to each note.

Drag-and-drop modulation and animated visual feedback help make deep programming more approachable. Assigned modulators appear as moving shapes, and controls show how strongly they are being modulated. Hover over a parameter to reveal the modulators driving it, or use the contextual explanations to understand the controls as you work. A navigable edit history lets you return to earlier stages of a patch, encouraging experimentation without losing a sound you liked.

A factory library of 1,000 presets gives you plenty of starting points, with search, favorites, and tagging to help you find the right one. Organize sounds into your own banks by project, genre, or client. Save filter, effect, Performer, and Keytracker setups as reusable module presets, so favorite building blocks are ready for your next sound. Massive XL is compatible with Massive X presets and Expansions, letting you continue working with your existing Massive X sounds.
