Description

Tape Echo is an analog-modeled delay effect inspired by the classic Roland RE-501 Chorus Echo. It recreates the sound and behavior of vintage tape echo processing while extending the workflow with modern synchronization, modulation, and stereo control features.

The plug-in includes multiple tape head configurations, BPM synchronization with natural timing variation, and a joggable playhead for hands-on delay manipulation. A dedicated preamp section offers Dirty, Clean, and Warm tonal modes, while additional chorus and spring reverb sections provide expanded spatial processing capabilities.

Tape Echo also models the imperfections associated with vintage tape hardware, including motor drift, tape noise, and signal dropouts. Additional tone shaping controls, stereo offset adjustment, and flexible wet/dry mixing make it suitable for classic delay textures as well as experimental sound design applications. The plug-in supports MPC Standalone, MPC Desktop, and all major DAWs in VST, AU, and AAX formats.

    This thing is trippy

I have a real RE-301 which I’ve had for years and love, but it’s old, fragile, bulky and requires a lot of care and maintenance so I never take it out of the studio.

The Air Tape Echo really surprised me. I also have the UAD Galaxy on desktop and play a lot of Dub / Phy style and I’ve only currently tried it on my MPC Live 2 with a guitar straight in, and it is really quite magic and authentic sounding to the real hardware.

Is it exactly the same, of course not because they are all so old and crusty now that they all have their unique character, but so does the Tape Echo and it’s stereo and you can save presets, control via Mid and it also has quite a few extra nice touches, like dropouts, noise etc which can be dialed right back (unlike my hardware unit)

I’m a bit of a delay & reverb junkie but I got lost for hours just playing my guitar through my MPC with this on a channel and thats when ‘I’ know something is good.

Get it on 10 day trial to see if you agree, but I was one day in and knew it was a must buy for me just to have it on MPC hardware for live use.
