Monumental Power. Cinematic Presence.
There’s nothing quite like the sound of brass ensembles filling the vast expanse of Stage A at Vienna Synchron Stage – majestic, commanding, and full of character. When Vienna’s finest low brass players unleash their instruments in this magnificent hall, the result is pure sonic power: the unmistakable energy that drives countless film, game, and trailer scores recorded right here in Vienna. BBO Brass captures that thrilling intensity, distilling the essence of heroic themes, dramatic tension, and symphonic grandeur into one powerful collection.
Overview
Massive Brass, Effortless Flow
Combining the full sample content of the previously available BBO Packs Hercules (Low Brass), Izar (Low Brass Clusters), and the über-large brass ensembles of Zodiac (Supermassive Ensembles), BBO Brass delivers a staggering array of orchestral brass might in one easily accessible package. Enhanced by our new Flow View for effortless navigation and uninterrupted creativity, it provides instant access to the unmistakable force and brilliance of Vienna’s renowned brass sound.
Low Brass
At the heart of BBO Brass lies the legendary low brass section of the Vienna Synchron Orchestra – an ensemble of four bass trombones, one bass tuba, and one contrabass tuba, recorded together in perfect balance. The contrabass tuba, playing an octave below, can be activated or deactivated within the Synchron Player, giving you flexible control over the ensemble’s depth and weight.
This is the sound that defines Hollywood’s most powerful scores – shaped by hundreds of score recordings, a world-class room that amplifies every nuance, and the precision engineering of Chief Recording Engineer Bernd Mazagg. From resonant warmth to extra fortississimo brilliance, these performances deliver a striking, brassy tone that cuts through any mix with clarity, authority, and style.
Low Brass Clusters
Few sounds evoke cinematic tension quite like low brass clusters. These half-tone dissonances, performed by the same ensemble of four bass trombones, one bass tuba, and one contrabass tuba, have become an essential part of contemporary film scoring – ideal for building suspense, accentuating climaxes, and underscoring moments of raw power.
Each patch includes the full articulation set of the Low Brass – except legatos – played as tight, three-note clusters (the played note, plus one semitone above and below). Choose from short notes, marcatos, sfz and sffz attacks, crescendos and decrescendos, flutter tonguing, trills, glissandos, and fast repetitions, all available with extra fortississimo layers for the most dramatic and impactful results. It’s an instant gateway to gripping, tension-filled brass textures.
Supermassive Brass Ensembles
For when “large” simply isn’t enough, BBO Brass features über-large ensembles that redefine the scale of symphonic power. With 12 horns and 9 trombones recorded in separate ensembles, these performances deliver monumental breadth and intensity.
At softer dynamics, the horns produce a noble, rounded tone – full and warm. Push them to the limit, and their fortefortissimo playing becomes an exhilarating force of nature, resonating through the hall with thrilling brilliance. The nine trombones, equally capable of raw strength and subtle sonority, also feature an extra fortefortissimo layer – unleashing an earth-shaking wall of brass that few other sound sources can match.
