Reason's sequencer handles everything from broad arrangement down to the smallest performance detail. Record and arrange audio and MIDI, edit automation curves, adjust groove timing, and use pattern or clip views, all without breaking creative flow. Fast, flexible, and built for both sketching and refinement.

Recording & audio workflow
Reason's recording tools are designed to stay out of the way. Record vocals, instruments, or full band takes, then use Comp Edit to assemble the best performance from multiple takes. Slice Edit and Vocal Edit give fine-grained timing and pitch control, and high-quality real-time time stretching works cleanly across the full project.

The Rack
The Rack is what sets Reason apart from every other DAW. Virtual hardware-style devices — instruments, effects, and MIDI utilities — are patched together with virtual cables. Route audio and CV in any direction, build custom instruments from scratch, and create sounds that can't be replicated anywhere else. The Rack also hosts third-party Rack Extensions and VST3/AU instruments.

Live sampling
Reason's samplers support on-the-fly audio capture directly within instruments — record a toy, a piece of hardware, a found sound, or a voice, and immediately play it from the keyboard. No export/import loop, no context-switching. Sampling is part of the core creative workflow.

SSL-modeled mixer
An advanced mixing console modeled on the SSL 9000k, with full channel strips, flexible routing, dynamics, EQ, group and parallel channels, and the legendary master-bus compressor.

Intuitive song arrangement with “Blocks”
Blocks give you a structural, compositional view of your song. Build sections — intro, verse, chorus, bridge — as distinct Blocks, arrange them into a song structure, and easily create variations, mute individual parts, or layer in new elements, all without editing the timeline directly.

Sound discovery made easy
Every patch, sample, loop, and preset lives in one fully tagged, searchable Browser. Filter across the entire library of 30,000+ sounds by name, type, category, or tag. Sound discovery is fast, organized, and never pulls focus away from the creative process.
